We will think big picture about a story that spans centuries and continents while shaping every person alive in the world today.  Learning about Western Civilization doesn’t have to be daunting.  This course is about the big picture:  understanding movements and themes rather than memorizing dates and names.  Topics covered in Roger Osbourne's Civilization, the class text, include:

*What is Civilization?

*Pre-Written History

*Greece

*Rome

*Christianity

*Life Together:  The Medieval World and the Renaissance

*Reformation

*Nations Rise

*Rationalism and the Enlightenment

*Economic Revolution

*The World at War

*Progress?

About the teacher:

Greetings!  My name is Kenneth Good.  History is a passion of mine, a life-long adventure; discovering and identifying the themes and patterns that accompany the story of humanity.  For believers, history is placed under God’s reign.  Studying history provides us constant pictures of the Lord’s majesty and power, grace and salvation.

I am a historian, and so are you, you just might not know it yet.

I am a husband, father of four, pastor of two small Presbyterian congregations along the Delaware River, author and teacher.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible from Philadelphia College of the Bible, my Master of Divinity from Biblical Theological Seminary, and an additional year of study at Princeton Theological Seminary.

My teaching career began in the summer of 2008 at Bloomfield College (NJ), as adjunct faculty teaching New Testament as Literature.  From 2008 to 2014, I taught at Kean University (NJ), a state university, as adjunct faculty in the History Department.  My current teaching includes partnering with my wife in homeschooling, and tutoring within our homeschool co-opt group.

In 2014, my first children’s book If I Were a Puzzle was published.  In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, walking and baseball.

Does this course involve a textbook and written work, or is it a video lecture series?

Kelly, my apologies, I was new to currclick in fall of 2016, and did not see this comment. As we prepare for spring 2017 semester, i'd like to provide this explanation for the hybrid class. We will have an introduction lecture on February 1st, and a closing lecture at the end of the semester. In between, students will use Osbourne's Civilization text to complete writing assignments.
Again, I am sorry that I missed your original post.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
This title was added to our catalog on June 12, 2016.
