2017 SPRING---Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) BEGINNING WRITING

Live Class
  • Includes certificate of completion
  • Class sessions recorded for later viewing
  • Class may be shared among family members

This 15-week course is a continuation of the Fall 2016 IEW Beginning Writing Class in which we will continue where we left off and complete the book All Things Fun & Fascinating (description below).

Giant stinky flowers.  Soup made from a bird’s nest.  Men who changed the world.  These are just a few of the “fun and fascinating” things you will write about in the lessons of this class.  More importantly, you will also learn how to write with structure and with style.   You will write stories, reports, a mini-research paper, poems, and creative essays.  You will be surprised at how much fun you will have writing!

Focus of this writing class will be Institute for Excellence in Writing’s methodology of writing with structure and style, focusing on not plagiarizing while outlining and writing organized and well-written paragraphs.  This class is geared towards students ages 9 through 12 but will fit well for any student with an interest in improving writing skills and/or those who need instruction.  Older students can be challenged with advanced dress-up requirements beyond what is typically taught within this class.

Cost includes lessons on the IEW units, vocabulary/grammar lessons and games, and editing of papers if submitted to instructor by requested due date.  It is not required that students submit writing papers, but it is highly encouraged.

(Although viewing of a class may be shared by family members, papers will be edited only for one student.  Additional students must purchase "additional student editing" option at my Publisher page.)

The reason the price is higher for this second semester is due to the fact that there are four extra weeks in the class session. I apologize if it is a surprise, but I am sure you can understand. As with the last semester, every student will receive personalized feedback from me on all assignments submitted by the due date.
I hope this clears things up. Thank you.

So upset that the price for IEW second semester 2017 class has jumped to $225 from $175. I was expecting and budgeting for the same amount. May not attend and have to regroup.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
