This class will be using the 2nd book in the new series by Dr. Wile.  Science in the Ancient World covers science from before Christ (BC) to early after Christ (AD).

"The course covers the scientific work of natural philosophers who lived from about 600 BC to the early AD 1500s. It concentrates mostly on what these ancient scientists got right, but it does spend some time discussing what they got wrong, because even the mistakes that scientists make can sometimes advance our understanding of the natural world. Of course, when the students are taught something that is now known to be incorrect, they are made aware of this fact!

Because the course covers science as it was developed, it covers a wide range of topics including human anatomy, medicine, optics, heliocentrism, geocentrism, sound, music, magnets, how steam is used to generate power, the motion of objects through a medium, combustion, levers, pulleys, plant growth, plant anatomy, tree ring dating, the atmosphere, astronomy, the basics of graphing, plastics, density, water flow, friction, and erosion. Throughout the course, students learn that most of the great scientists who lived from AD 500 to the end of this time period were devout Christians who did science because they thought they could learn more about God by studying His handiwork."  (from Berean Builders website)

Each student will need to purchase the textbook. You may purchase the textbook from Berean Builders (https://www.bereanbuilders.com) or other online retailers.

Each class will consist of teaching/reviewing the lessons and demonstrating as many of the experiments as possible. These experiments should also be completed at home. Students are encouraged to share what they are learning at home through our student forum or in class as time permits.

This is a YEAR LONG  (2 semesters Fall and Winter) course but each semester must be purchased individually.  Fall semester runs Aug- Dec. Winter semester will be Jan-May. Class sessions will be approximately one hour in length.

THIS CLASS WILL BE TAUGHT FROM A BIBLICAL, CREATIONIST POINT OF VIEW.

About the Teacher: My name is Debbie Mackin with HIS Creation Science. I received my BS in Medical Technology degree from the University of Tampa and my clinical certification from Duke University Medical Center, Department of Allied Health. After working in clinical labs for almost 12 years, I left to be a full time at home mom at the birth of my oldest. I have 2 children and have always homeschooled them (my oldest graduated in May 2014 and my youngest will graduate in 2016). I have a passion to help kids see our Awesome Creator through the study of science! I am a firm believer that science and faith do not need to be separate but rather the study of science can confirm scripture and strengthen our faith. By studying the creation around us, we can better know our Creator. I look forward to seeing you in class as we learn more about our Awesome Creator!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
