Writer's Craft Workshop

Have you ever wondered why writers write?  Yearned to take your writing on new and exciting adventures?  Wanted to develop strategies which would encourage more detail and description in your literary creations?  Deliberated how skilled authors compose their stories?  If you answered “yes” to any or all of these ponderings, then Writers Craft Workshop may be just the class for you.  During this semester long course, students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing while dialoguing with other writers.  Class members will analyse models of effective writing, while participating in a workshop format, to produce a wide range of works. We will have an amazing time together as we compose original drafts, implement literary devices such as irony, symbolism, allegory and figurative language as well as draw upon techniques required for specialized forms of writing in an engaging educational milieu.  Students will enjoy experimenting with poetic effect and form, creating short stories by applying the elements of fiction and exploring a variety of narrative structures such as flashback, suspense and sequencing of events.  We will endeavor to "read like writers"  as we explore illuminary mentor texts. Writing reviews of selected movies, books and newspaper articles will further hone skills of authorship. Class members will have regular opportunities to share their own writing effforts with their peers as we meet twice weekly for twenty-six one hour sessions.  Acquiring the skill set necessary to be effective literary analysts, successful writers and articulate oral communicators will be the focus of this captivating sequence of classes!  With the submission and presentation of a summative writing portfolio, at the culmination of the workshop, this creative writing course will provide students with a high school level English credit.

Hello Angie,
Thank you for your interest in Writer's Craft Workshop. No worries, many of my CurrCLick families have successfully utilized the recordings when they have had to miss live meetings due to scheduling conflicts. I am always available by email if your daughter requires any clarification along the way. :) Please feel free to drop me a line if you have any further questions. I am always happy to be of assistance.

Good afternoon, my daughter would love to take this class but is already registered for an art class on Thursdays at 2pm. Would it be possible for her to still take this class and simply watch the recorded sessions on Thursday? Or would you advice against that?

Thanks in advance,
Angie Waite

Hello! So sorry for the delay in response. Our family is currently on holidays. Thank you for your interest in Writer's Craft Workshop. We will be utilizing engaging, quality mentor texts during our live meetings. Mentor texts are often carefully selected segments of well written literature at this level. I will be sure to post a listing of sources when I am back at my desk. Have a great day!

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
