Welcome budding photographers!   Autumn is the Perfect Time for pictures!  You will explore the history of photography, camera settings and basic photo editing using common functions in computer image software.  Every week, you will have diverse photography assignments to use your new skills and create a final portfolio for a class Presentation!  Come and join us for lots of Photographic Fun!  Certificates for Achievement will be awarded at the conclusion of the course. 

Course Requirements: A digital camera with connection to move pictures to your computer; pen and notebook for class notes, Microsoft PowerPoint


Introduction to Digital Photography Scope and Sequence

Week 1 – Vocabulary/Lecture and Class Notes: Brief History of Photography; Intro to Digital Photography /Examples of Early Modern Photography/Class Activities: Timeline of Photography; Class Discussion Questions; Matching Pre-Test of Vocabulary/ /Photography Portfolio Assignment:  Everyday Images

Week 2 – Vocabulary/Lecture and Class Notes: Digital Imaging vs. Film/Class Activities: Learning the Basics of Computer Imaging Software (Free Online Software); Class Discussion Questions; Matching Pre-Test of Vocabulary/Photography Portfolio Assignment:  Manipulating Photos from Lesson 1, using Imaging Software

Week 3 – Vocabulary/Lecture and Class Notes: Color in Digital Imaging; Fixed Lens Cameras vs. Single Lens Reflex Cameras/Class Activities: Basic Camera Settings; Class Discussion Questions; Matching Pre-Test of Vocabulary/Photography Portfolio Assignment:  Same photograph using 4 different settings

Week 4 –Vocabulary/Lecture and Class Notes; Portraits in Photography and Techniques/Class Activities: Comparisons of Historical Portraits; Class Discussion Questions; Matching Pre-Test of Vocabulary/Photography Portfolio Assignment: Create a Portrait Photography

Week 5 - Vocabulary/Lecture and Class Notes; Altered Photographs and Techniques/Class Activities: Comparisons of Altered Photos; Class Discussion Questions; Matching Pre-Test of Vocabulary/Photography Portfolio Assignment: Create an Altered Photograph (Send Portfolio to Teacher before final class.)

Week 6 – Vocabulary/Lecture and Class Notes; Professions in Photography/Class Activities: Explore examples of famous Photographer’s works; Class Discussion Questions; Matching Pre-Test of Vocabulary/Presentations of Students’ Photography Portfolios

About the teacher:

Kathy Roberson is an ISBE Licensed teacher with over 10 years of experience in teaching children of all ages in online settings.  She holds a B.A. in Art Education, Specialist Degree and is also ISBE Lincensed to teach grades Kindergarten - High School in any subject area.  She is pleased to offer this course to CurrClick Students!

If the withdrawal request is made within 24 hours of the kick-off session, the class will be refunded at 75%. If the withdrawal request is made more than 24 hours after kick-off session, no refund is available for that class.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
