History of Weapons- Siege Weapons- Self-Paced

This is a Self-Paced Class- more on self-paced classes below- Keep Reading!

How do you get in the castle when those within want to keep you out? Siege weapons of course! Just because those fancy nobles are hidden away behind walls of stone don't think the invading enemy can't get in (or at least inflict a lot of damage trying)! Being able to attack the "impenetrable fortress" with fervor was an important aspect of war-craft as soon as stone walls and moats were created. If you are planning on laying siege to a castle or heavily fortified outpost soon, you will need this class!

ALL History of Weapons classes are taught from a neutral point of view and are family friendly!

This class covers these devices:

  • Catapults
  • Onagers
  • Mangonels
  • Trebuchets
  • Ballista
  • Crossbows for Siege attacks (you may be surprised)
  • Ramming Devices
  • Siege Towers
  • Briefly touches on Palintonons and Ladders

In this Self-Paced Course you will find:

  • Siege Weapons Supplementary Ebook pdf (read this one first! 30 pgs)
  • There is a quiz w/ answers and a certificate of completion in this book, along with maps and helpful information.
  • Siege Weapons Ebook pdf (20 pgs)
  • History of Weapons Siege Weapons SP Powerpoint (66 slides)
  • 6 Video’s that support the learning of this topic are provided in MP4 format.

You may be asking- what is a self-paced class?

A Self-Paced class means that as soon as you have purchased the class, the learning is available whenever you are! No more marking a date and time on the calendar to log in live. No waiting required! Upon purchase of the class, you will have all materials available. Download everything (I’d recommend making a folder on your computer that houses ALL the files for this class). This makes homeschool planning so much easier! You can plan the lesson around YOUR schedule!

Depending on your student(s) and your homeschool schedule, this class can be done in an afternoon or spread out over a couple of days.

Am I understanding this correctly?? Right now, we are studying ancient history. Since this is a self paced class, this means we could do the course later, when we start studying the period these were used in??

Okay, I bought these materials and now I'm trying to figure out when in history I would want to include these materials in our studies. Any chance you could help me out?? I was thinking possibly the Middle Ages, then again I was also thinking the Renaissance, but I don't want to mess up and include it in our lessons during the wrong period.
Thanks again for your help,

The beautiful thing is that there is no “wrong” way to do this. If you choose to learn about all the siege weapons, let’s say, a month from now and the following month you are studying the middle ages or the Roman Empire you can mention the siege weapons that relate to which society and time period you are studying, i.e., “hey Sven, remember when we were learning about trebuchets? Now we see these soldiers used trebuchets for a time”, and you can even pull up the portion on trebuchets again as a reminder – and also because they are cool! You may also choose to go to the section that covers a siege weapon you just read about. If you’re studying some point in time in history, or a battle, and “siege towers” are mentioned, you could choose at that point in time to go to your History of Weapons Siege Weapons material and dive into the portion that covers siege towers. One of the interesting things about weaponry and armor is that different cultures develop similar types of weaponry and armor at...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
