Presidents Topical Study

Presidents make a great topic of study and Catherine has just made the process of studying them easier. It makes a great study for elementary and middle school students.

What’s Included?

1)      Helpful hints to get you started on your Presidents study.

2)      Information to make a Presidents’ Lapbook.

3)      Two different presidents’ worksheets for students to copy and fill out for each president, as they study them.  For younger students you can help them with some of the answers, or have them do less.  (We sell each of these in their own books, with one sheet already started for each president, but these “blank” forms works just as well.) With these worksheets, the students are encouraged to some basic research on each president.  It is not an overwhelming amount, but enough to get them going that direction!

4)      Answers for the basic questions for the worksheets that can also be copied for copywork.

5)      Ideas for using Presidential Speeches as part of your study.

6)      A timeline that shows you when each president was elected, which ones died in office, etc.  Good for getting you started, and introducing you to some of the presidents you may not have met yet.  (When we did our first Presidents study, there truly were a couple of presidents I had never heard of before!)  I give each student a copy of the timeline either at the end of the study or at the beginning.  I find that a timeline is most helpful for me at the beginning, as we are preparing to start a study, and for them at the end, when they are finishing the study, and can use it as review.

7)      A timeline game – good for introducing the topic, and for reviewing later.  (Everyone will be amazed at how much easier it is to play at the end of the study than it was at the beginning.)

8)      Pictures from Dover Coloring Books.

9)      Catherine’s book – Understanding Presidential Elections. It can be useful for the teacher and/or older students.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
