A simple, fun resource to go along with your studies. These Writing Prompt Cards are geared for middle-upper elementary grades but can be adapted for other grade levels as well, and almost any teaching style. Instructions included. 15 pages.


Print & cut the cards. Place cards into an envelope, box, hat, or other container. The child/student can pick a writing prompt, then write about it in a notebook or journal. There are a total of 100 writing prompt cards. You do not have to print them all. One page will still provide plenty to choose from.

Just a few of the "writing prompts" included:

Invent your own amazing chair. Describe it and what any special parts would do.

Imagine that all the streets are rivers? How do you get around?

Find 10 random words in the dictionary, and write a short story using all of them.

If you could run your own restaurant, what would you call it? What 10 things would you put on the menu and how much would you charge for each?

John has never seen a chair before and has no idea what it would even be used for. Can you please explain it to him?

If it were really possible to bring dinosaurs back to life, should we? Why or why not?

What does the phrase, "There are two sides to a coin" mean to you?

Start with the words "I see" and describe everything you can see from where you're sitting now.

We love these cards. Each idea is a great way to spark in writing process. We each have a journal; (mom included) and we choose a card each day to work on. This has be a great way to ignite a passion for writing in my kids. Sometimes all you need is [...]

We have only used the cards a couple of times so far but they seem to be a hit. I have a boy who is a very reluctant writer but the cards are sparking his imagination and we are having fun mapping out the story with a mind map before he actually write [...]

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
