A literature based unit study to accompany I Took The Moon For A Walk written by Carolyn Curtis and illustrated by Alison Jay ISBN 1841488038 (Book not included)

A young boy goes for a walk on a Summer's evening. He is accompanied by the full moon on his journey through the English countryside and beyond into his imagination. Lyrically written in rhyming text and illustrated with unique vintage style pictures.

This Picture Book Explorer pack takes you to Derbyshire, UK, where you can learn about local traditions and landscape features. Your child can learn about the moon, try his hand at being a poet and practise poetry analysis, learn about British wildlife, practise maths skills, make a toy, and even take his own Moon for a walk. All this and more to give up to a month long learning adventure for your family.

Includes instructions for over 20 activities; printables including timeline, notebooking pages, minibooks, maps and flag; list of supplies needed; book & film go-along suggestions to help you make this study best fit your child.

Optional extras will be needed to complete some of the hands-on activities.

Written by a British Home Educator with over 20 years experience, Picture Book Explorers are designed to guide you and your child along a learning journey inspired by beautifully crafted books. Each of the downloadable studies provides stepping stones from reading the story aloud into an enjoyable educational adventure. The hope is, that even after you have taken everything you can from a Picture Book Explorer file, your family will continue on the learning journey, adding your own ideas and taking inspiration from the suggestions given.

Each study contains maps, flags, a timeline and fact sheets to help you on your way. Some will contain notebooking pages, mini-books, quizzes and/or colouring sheets. They each contain over 20 activity suggestions with the information and/or instructions needed to complete them. These range from discussion ideas to creative writing projects to practical art projects to craft activities to maths problems to science experiments to recipes to games to field trip ideas and beyond. They are fully researched and tested before publication to make sure that your child gets the best quality learning experience possible. Having said that, we're only human and sometimes make mistakes; we welcome all feedback to be able to improve our products and service.

The books must be bought separately – check your library and look out for them in charity shops.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
