You've never used a writing curriculum quite like this one . . . a book on writing, written by working writers.

We asked ourselves "What skills do we use every day in professional writing?" then developed lessons based on those skills.

24 lessons explore 6 dimensions of writing:

Word Play, Parts of Speech, Mind Quest, Lively Language, Special Features, and Revision.

Each lesson includes three levels of writing ability: Startup, Intermediate, and Advanced. Choose the level to match your student’s writing ability regardless of age or grade.

Go through Igniting Your Writing! with one student several times at increasing levels, or use for more than one student at a time.

Includes Teacher’s Guide linked to corresponding lessons. Lessons don't have to be printed out; all work is done on separate paper.

You won't find a writing curriculum that's easier to understand and use, for both students and parents.

Does a student need to do all 3 levels of all 24 lessons? Trying to figure out if this is a full year or half year resource. I have a 7th grader and 10th grader.

Thanks for your question. I am the author of Igniting Your Writing. The curriculum is almost endlessly flexible. Please look at the Full-size Preview, p. 5, under "What schedule should I use?" for some possibilities. For example, a student could do a lesson a week for most of a school year; or you could choose to go at a faster or slower pace.
Concerning the three levels, use whatever level in each lesson is appropriate for your student. There may be some lessons where a student can only handle Start-Up right now, and others where the same student can do Intermediate or even Advanced. Your younger student may even be "ahead" of your older student for some lessons.
I hope this is helpful. Igniting Your Writing! and Igniting Your Writing II were not written to fit a particular school year schedule, but rather to teach the writing skills that real writers use daily, on whatever schedule fits your family's life.
Sincerely,
Sandy Larsen dslarsen@Q.com
