Titanic Unit Study K-12 MINI

This unit study is 25 chapters and 85 pages of 2 years of writing and 11 years of expertise & research.  It covers Final project ideas, Field Trip ideas, books, videos, 11 pages of resources, activities, essays (writing/discussion questions), critical thinking, history, literature, art/drama, music, science, math, timelines, internet links, home economics, map skills/social studies.

Please enjoy this unit study in which we enter the world of the Titanic in meeting her builders, passengers and crew.  See why the ship was so unsinkable and know about what happened in her final moments; what happened to some of her passengers and crew after the disaster and fianlly what she looks like today and the interest she has generated.  I have ready many if not all of the books and resources that are here over the last 11 years that I have had this passion for the Titanic (I am now 18 and have been doing this since I was 7 years old!) and many shipwrecks.  After looking at the other unit studies out there, this is the MOST in depth, thorough and ACCURATE of the unit studies out there.  This will also cover K-12 grades andthere is not a unit study out there that does that!!  Remember this is a "buffet" of information.  I wanted to give you as much information that I have that is out there, resources and all that I have discovered.  I have personally communicated with famous authors of the ship including Ken Marschall, George Behe and the discoverer himself, Dr. Robert Ballard.  You can do all of it or pick and choose what you want to cover.  This unit is made to do over a year but is so flexible that you can choose to do it any way that would fit the needs of your children the best!  This will cover all learning styles, all ages, all grades and all levels.

In going through this unit study I'd like to remind you that this isn't just some blockbuster movie or thing that happened in history.  This is a disaster in which women and children were widowed and orphaned and others lost their lives in the cold North Atlantic Ocean.  I ask that while learning about this great ship, please treat this as if you're learning about the Twin Towers of New York on 9/11.  I invite you to take from this unit study information about this beautiful ship and these interesting people and the circumstances surrounding the Titanic, but please treat this subject with some respect for the over 1,500 people that died that night and the 705 survivors that have since died and whom witnessed this terrible disaster.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
