"You Are There" dramatizes historic events with "live radio" coverage. Each show begin with a "live" background coverage of the historical event, and then the characters take over. The dialogue is quite believable, as factual as possible, and very much in character. Most of the famous events covered occurred prior to WWII, but Americans had become accustomed to listening to daily field reports from the war front and these reports created an emotional impact with the audience that these recordings try to emulate. In fact, many of the announcers on You Are There were wartime correspondents!
