This guided notebooking exercise is a wonderful idea! Rather than simply being given some templates with places to put information, the older elementary student is instead lead through a process of discovering the candidates and their parties using this e-book. The exercises are simple and straightforward, and will help to get your older children involved in this year's historical US election.
From reflecting on the candidate's views on a variety of issues to looking at the type of campaign ads they are using, from looking at the party affiliations of the past presidents to tracking the polling results on election day itself, there are a number of easy and interesting ways for the student to do some independent work that will help de-mystify the election process and make it relevant.
