I'm a huge fan of these editing practice books. There are four paragraphs to edit per week plus a writing topic suggestion for the fifth day. Each page has two paragraphs; suggested answers are on separate pages. I generally print only the exercises, so that's just two sheets of paper per week. The exercises are illustrated with simple black and white drawings that won't use too much ink from your printer. Editing practice is a spiral approach (rather than mastery approach) that reaps dividends with consistent use....

History Scribe notebooking pages are simple - some introductory text on top, a large blank for drawing or pasting on items, and lines for writing at the bottom. I like them because my daughter loves to illustrate what we've studied.

I used this book to supplement our study of the American Civil War with minibook templates and easy papercraft ideas. Although we didn't use ALL of the ideas in the book, I found it very worth the $11 I spent. One I especially liked was the Gettysburg Address one page book. It had quotes from the famous speech and room for the child to illustrate the meanings. Some of the ideas in this book would work well for other topics too such as the jumping jacks and biography templates. So even though we are finished with the Civil War, I think I'll use this book again for inspiration and templates....

We have been working through this lapbook and we are enjoying it so much. I have been able to adapt it to fit both of my children, who work at different levels, so that we can all do our unit together. My children have gotten so much out of this lapbook and the information really needed very little supplementation. They are noticing different breeds and dogs have just come alive for them through this thoughtfully put-together study. My children are encouraged to categorize dogs we see into their proper categories, e.g. sporting dog, working dogs, etc. This study has also helped them to learn the role that dogs play in helping humans as well as being companions. Now where can we find a dog show so we can see all these breeds in person? I recommend this study highly....

We just completed using the World War I lapbook to complement our study of the subject. It was a great way to supplement what we were reading about and provided a great keepsake that we can go back and use to review the subject.
My son is a very reluctant writer, but did very well at creating his mini-books. The information in the project pack was at just the right level and allowed him to easily understand the information.
I would definitely recommend this project pack and look forward to doing more lapbooks from Hands of a Child....

This is an excellent resource for studying Canada. As a Canadian, it is a refreshing change of pace to discover a resource from an American company that is this comprehensive. With just a little supplementation, it will be a useful tool for my daughter's grade five social studies program. It has matches many of the learning outcomes required by the Alberta government.
For those outside of Canada, it will help them to understand our country as well. The only thing that I would like to see corrected is in the Landform Regions section. The Maritime region is now called the Appalachian region.
Thank you for a wonderful resource....

We are still completing the project but I wanted to write this and asy that there is a nice launching point for a deeper unit study or just a nice little mini study in Airplanes. It is quite thorough and yet has flexibility for the childs interest to take off.
Some of the graphics printed in sizes too large to fit on the booklet as described in the directions. We just adjusted by copy reduction or you could adjust the size of your booklets.
I hope to try more products for this company.

We really enjoyed this project pack. Since our curriculum is the Prairie Primer this fit in nicely to our studies. This was our first time using the lapbook method. Since I love to scrapbook this was right up my alley!! We were able to just open the file and print what we needed. We did not need to waste paper on unecessary things. I loved the vocabulary list that were given and the little books the children were able to put together. The timelines, recipes, and detailed instruction for activities. We have 3 children ages 15, 12, 10. The 2 older children have learning disabilities and they were able to learn a lot from the hands on type of learning. I am looking forward to using a couple more project packs in the near future....

We ordered this lap book project to supplement a flower/plant unit included in our regular curriculum. I was excited to find that I could adapt the studies and activities so even my first grader could enjoy it and find more challenging information than our curriculum alone would include. We both looked forward to completing the easy-to-understand pockets and to solidifying the studies with the activities and cards. We love this publisher and will order again!

This was our first time using a lap book from In the Hands of a Child and overall I would say that it was well worth the doing.
The research guide and activities were well set up making it fairly easy to read a section and find which activities to do with it.
I split the activities between my eleven year old and eight year old as a joint project.
My eleven year old daughter who doesn't like to write found the writing in this lap book to be a reasonable challenge rather then a miserable chore. My eight year old enjoyed making up the vocabulary cards and quizzing people.
My only quibble is that it would have been nice to have had a brief description and some idea of the appropriate age for the list of related books....

This is a fun and really interesting lapbook pack from Hands of a Child. My Dd is a total animal lover and loved this project! This packet covers general information about marsupials including diet, habitat, reproduction, classifications, lifespans, etc. It also provides "snapshots" on many different types of individual marsupials. You may even learn about animals you've never heard of before. If your child/children love animals, this is definitely a project they will like.

My family has really enjoyed working through this lapbook! At first I was somewhat concerned because I was using it with a 1st and 4th grader - but they were both able to get a lot out of it. The Bible readings correlated very well with everyday concepts. Since the kids are different ages, they learned a lot about how their responsibilities relate to their privileges. The activities made the kids think about how each concept related to their life in a very specific way. I would encourage this for any family, particularly those who hear a lot of "Why me?'s"....

"We loved the Turkey Time unit! We used it with four children ages 4, 6, 8 & 9. I was easily able to tailor the Unit for each child to have fun and learn with it. I would highly recommend this Unit for preparing for Thanksgiving or your harvest theme. The instructions are easy to follow and modify for different ages, the graphics are fun and cute, and we all had a terrific time comparing and discussing the various parts of our study. We did 4 individual lapbooks so each child would have their own. I also used several of the ideas and templates (and my Cricut machine!) for some great placecards, and "What I'm grateful for" crafts for the children to do up for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner!"...

I used this lapbook with my daughter who is in 1st grade. We both enjoyed learning about spiders and putting the lapbook together. This lapbook is definetly worth the money as it would have taken me weeks to put together the information and resources provided. Great resource!
