Picking up where the first course left off, Living Your Life II starts with cars. The course, through creative and fun exercises the student does with a tutor's aid, learns what is dangerous about a car, both from inside and outside of the car. They discover why it's a bad idea to make tons of noise while the car is in motion. This is followed by a section on safety while on the street. Where and when to cross streets is included, and what to do to be certain no moving car will be near while the student is walking or playing. Next comes the section on how to deal with strangers...

The final course for year one Living Your Life, for students ages 5-6. This series of courses is intended to provide the young student with fun, involving ways to understand the world they are a part of, and how to stay well in it, while exploring their own ideas and creativity.

This fourth course covers: The universe, the Milky Way Galaxy, the Solar System, Earth, what space is, what time is, and how we measure them. These ideas are personalized, and the student is given hands-on ways of discovering the ideas that, well, make our world go 'round, and how they effect the student and his/her life.

Starter courses also enhance the relationship between teacher and student, and help define it in constructive and creative ways that both student and teacher will enjoy. ...

A person interested in science - no matter how old or how young - must be able to tell the difference between a fact and an opinion.  Science is based on measurable results.  It isn't science unless it can be measured.  Science discourages the substitution of opinions or faith for measurements, and a child studying science needs to learn this lesson rly.  An ability to spot a fact in as opposed to an idea or opinion is critical to the successful study of almost any subject, and this course helps the young student develop this important ability.

The first second semester science course from 1st Step, for students ages 4-6. This fun course is filled with photos and links to interesting films about water on Earth. 18 lessons, 9-10 weeks of study.

What is water? How is it different from solids and gases? How can water be turned into a solid or a gas? Ideas that 4-6 year olds are rarely exposed to. What is an ocean? How is an ocean different from a sea or lake? How does water make life possible on Earth? What sort of animals live in and around water? All with hands-on experiements, and lots of photos and film to help the student see and touch and understand.

What are whales and dolphins? How do they live? How about penguins? Salmon? Polar bears? The student investigates the world of life through it...

What was life like before civilization, and how do we know? 15 lessons that allow the student to discover on his own what a human being is, how we are different from other living things, and why we are important. The student investigates the actions of human beings...selecting advantageous areas to live in, and building and living in homes of their own design. The student investigates the evidence of primitive cave life, and of our earliest inventions, those which helped man conquer his world. As with all our history and science courses, all concepts are presented simply, and accompanied by hands-on and fun exercises to help the student really understand. Apprx. 15 hours of study.

History IV - Egypt

The final 14 history lesson plans for Semester I covers that most wondrous and magical civilization, ancient Egypt. Why did this great civilization, which survived over 3,000 years, form in the midst of a desert nation? What did the ancient Egyptians believe? A land where women occasionally ruled, and the first man we know of in history to believe in one God was a Pharaoh. Pyramids, the Sphinx, boats and chariots! Egypt unveiled for the young student to experience and appreciate.

STARTER CURRICULUM PROGRAM

The sixth course in history for students ages 5-6.  China and India, two countries with the longest continuous history on Earth.  The two largest populations in the world, lands of great wonder and mystery.  How did they become the great and fascinating countries they are? 

Each section starts with a description of the land itself.  Then, the history of its people follows, highlighting great leaders and new religions such as Taoism, Conucius, Buddha, Ashoka and Hinduism.  The arts of each country are experienced by the student, and the student's own articstic interests are challenged.

An amazing course which keeps the student active and learning, while improving reading skills. The student extends their understanding of measurements and how science uses them to create categories and so better understand the universe. The student learns to compare and contrast, and think in terms of magnitudes. Scientific categories are explored, and the student explores categorizations of living (organic) and non-living (inorganic) things, subjects, and even natural disasters.

The final science course in the first year of Elementary, ages 7-8. The first half of the course covers the Earth's waters - its oceans, lakes, rivers, underground waters, currents, hurricanes, tidal waves and tsunamis, and how these impact life and weather on our planet. This part comes with its own test and answer guide.

Part Two cover our atmosphere. What is air, how did it come to be. Weather is explored in detail, including how the sun and Earth's various terrains contribute to it.The types of clouds and storms are investigated, and the student is introduced to the concepts of air pollutio, and investigates the concept of global warming.
