Math Mammoth Grade 3 International Version is a complete math program for 3rd grade. It consists of two student worktexts (A and B), a separate answer key for each, tests, cumulative reviews, and in the download version, an additional worksheet maker (Internet access required) to make extra practice worksheets when needed.

This curriculum is essentially the same as the US version of Math Mammoth Grade 3, only customised for the international audience in these aspects: The currency used in the money chapters in grades 1-3 is the Australian dollar. (The download versions for these grades include the chapter on money also for US, British, European, South African, Canadian, and New Zealand currencies.) The curriculum teaches the metric measurement units. Imperial units, such as inches and pounds, are not taught. The spelling conforms to British international standards (British English). It is formatted to be printed on A4-sized paper. Large numbers are formatted with a space as the thousands separator (such as 12 394). (The decimals are formatted with a decimal point, like in the US version.)

Third grade is a time for learning and mastering two (mostly new) operations: multiplication and division within 100. The student also deepens his understanding of addition and subtraction, and uses those in many different contexts, such as with money, time, and geometry.

The main areas of study in Math Mammoth Grade 3 are: Students develop an understanding of multiplication and division of whole numbers through problems involving equal-sized groups, arrays, and area models. They learn the relationship between multiplication and division, and solve many word problems involving multiplication and division (chapters 2, 3, and 9). They learn the multiplication tables, and learn how to use their knowledge of multiplication tables to solve basic division facts. Students develop an understanding of fractions, beginning with unit fractions. They use fractions along with visual fraction models and on a number-line. They also compare fractions by using visual fraction models and strategies based on noticing equal numerators or denominators (chapter 10). Students learn the concepts of area and perimeter. They relate area to multiplication and to addition, recognize perimeter as a linear measure (in contrast with area), and solve problems involving area and perimeter (chapter 7). Students fluently add and subtract within 1 000, both mentally and in columns (with regrouping). They learn to add and subtract 4-digit numbers, and use addition and subtraction in problem solving (chapters 1 and 6).

Additional topics we study are time (chapter 4), money (chapter 5), measuring (chapter 8), and bar graphs and pictographs (in various chapters).
Some main features of Math Mammoth complete curriculum (Light Blue series) are: it focuses on understanding of mathematical concepts; uses clear explanations, lots of visual exercises and pattern exercises; it is mastery oriented: concentrates fairly long on a topic, with very few topics per grade; it emphasizes mental maths and developing number sense;  and very little teacher preparation is needed.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
